Friday 28 August 2009 - Long Mynd

The Midland Gliding Club is based at Long Mynd, Shropshire, on
top of a 426 metre high hill so landing on it is a bit like a big grassy
aircraft carrier with sheep!!
.
Preparing Gliders for departure is time consuming. Behind the two
Gliders the tug G-CMGC Pawnee is just visible. This was not in use
and the winch which was is visible on the right behind the white
Range Rover
.
Many moregliders were stored in the trailers in the background. Only
one glider actually got airborne G-CKAW DG-500 Elan Orion. It is
here seen making a hasty return in heavy rain as an enormous squall
hit the airfield

The 18m National Gliding Competion was held at Husband Bosworth
between Saturday 25 July and Sunday 2 August 2009 - visitors
